And Nevada Bob seems to be gathering them. Tall and lean, the modest octogenarian loves to engage with people. Sometimes he's just looking for an opening to sing one of his songs like Bad Movie Blues ("Sometimes life is like a bad movie") and other times he may fall back to one of his favorite covers like House of the Rising Sun . The author is a jokester, badass, and gifted storyteller; he is also a singing cowboy with several CDs to his credit. The breadth of his 80 years of life experience (including 58 years of marriage) is awesome. His stories about working in the Seattle Police Force are particularly compelling. As the memoir progresses, it becomes more of a cowboy tale as he works on different ranches out West, continuing to engage in tomfoolery and new adventures. He and his family face numerous crises, most of which they miraculously survive and others that are tragic. If you're a Baby Boomer, you very likely remember exactly where you were when two specific Sixties events took place. The first, which made an indelible mark on all of us, much like a concussion, was the assassination of JFK. The second was wholly other, the first appearance of the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show . In olden times, tribes and people groups discussed their histories by noting "markers" in time. The old-timers had value because they remembered these histories. The year of the flood or the year of the locusts. For me, these two events mark a major change in my life. I was in sixth grade, living in Ohio when JFK was killed in Dallas.
