After finishing his seventh CD recording session in Nashville, Nevada Bob and photographer Gary Firstenberg have been on another road trip, zigging and zagging North, South, East and West. And Nevada Bob seems to be gathering them. Tall and lean, the modest octogenarian loves to engage with people. Sometimes he's just looking for an opening to sing one of his songs like Bad Movie Blues ("Sometimes life is like a bad movie") and other times he may fall back to one of his favorite covers like House of the Rising Sun . Frenchmen Art and Books is an independently owned and operated bookstore in New Orleans that now carries Nevada Bob Gordon's 50 Years with the Wrong Woman . The store can be found at 600 Frenchmen Street where it has been cultivating a following since 1978. If you check out their site you might find Delia Owens' Where the Crawdads Sing, which just happens to be a major motion picture that has been attracting audiences this summer. We're guessing that some day Nevada Bob's memoir will become a feature film. It's certainly worthy, a compelling story of resilience, with a mix of both action and humor A s its name proclaims,  Frenchmen Art and Books is more than a bookstore. Bob Gordon in front of Corktown, an  eating establishment in Duluth. Last week Bob Gordon arrived in Minnesota to record his memoir 50 Years with the Wrong Woman as an audiobook. As one who has spent three decades listening to audiobooks, I can tell you up front that I was a little nervous about Nevada Bob being the narrator of his own book. I say this because at least half or more of the audiobooks read by their authors come across less than great. (My favorite audiobook  reader, until now, has been Grover Gardner .) Nevada Bob has a distinctive baritone voice. It really resonates, which is why people enjoy his music. His story has a lot of emotional moments which no one could convey like Bob, who lived through them. Nevertheless, they did a short trial to be sure it would work. The author is a jokester, badass, and gifted storyteller; he is also a singing cowboy with several CDs to his credit. The breadth of his 80 years of life experience (including 58 years of marriage) is awesome. His stories about working in the Seattle Police Force are particularly compelling. As the memoir progresses, it becomes more of a cowboy tale as he works on different ranches out West, continuing to engage in tomfoolery and new adventures. BOB GORDON (Nevada Bob) was born in Alaska in 1939. As a young Navy man, he traveled the world. Stateside, he met the love of his life, Carol Newton, a tall black-haired beauty and the heroine of his ironically titled memoir. They married, and Bob became a Seattle cop. After being fired for improper conduct—around the time his astronaut cousin Richard Gordon was orbiting the moon on Apollo 12—he vowed to change his ways. Bob moved Carol and their four kids (eventually, there were seven) to Oregon, marking the beginning of an adventurous, hard-working life. After Carol died in 2020, Bob wrote and recorded a song for her for his album, Long Train To Nowhere.
