Perfect Weather Accompanies Nevada Bob to Minnesota

Last week Bob Gordon arrived in Minnesota to record his memoir 50 Years with the Wrong Woman as an audiobook. As one who has spent three decades listening to audiobooks, I can tell you up front that I was a little nervous about Nevada Bob being the narrator of his own book. I say this because at least half or more of the audiobooks read by their authors come across less than great. (My favorite audiobook  reader, until now, has been Grover Gardner.)

Nevada Bob has a distinctive baritone voice. It really resonates, which is why people enjoy his music. His story has a lot of emotional moments which no one could convey like Bob, who lived through them. Nevertheless, they did a short trial to be sure it would work. He was sensational. 

Daryl Bolicek, owner/engineer at Wild Horse Studio, has three criteria for when it is O.K. for an author to read his or her own book. Bob satisfied all three.

Wild Horse studio is located in Stillwater, just east of St. Paul, on the Wisconsin border. Not only was Bob an exceptionally good reader, he finished the project a day-and-a-half early. When the CD is completed, it will also include some of the songs Nevada Bob recorded in Nashville.

On Saturday morning, Nevada Bob and photographer Gary Firstenberg--Bob's chauffeur, friend and travel guide--drove up to Duluth so we could meet and exchange stories about the project and their travels. As is the custom, the pair paid a visit to the childhood home of Bob Dylan, who was born in St. Mary's Hospital here and lived upstairs in a Central Hillside duplex till he was six.

Stillwater Gazette Article Serves as a Nice Overview of Nevada Bob's Life and Spirit

Earlier this summer Nevada Bob Gordon recorded his memoir 50 Years with the Wrong Woman at Wild Horse Studio in Stillwater. While there, Bayard Godsave of the Stillwater Gazette dropped in to meet Bob and do a story.  The article posted online yesterday and it's a really fun read.  Godsave successfully captured the Nevada Bob's spirit, and also uncovered some facts that even I didn't know about the rancher, singer/songwriter and author. Maria of Sentir Cubano Calls Nevada Bob's Memoir the Story of a True American Hero

In the heart of Miami's Little Havana there's a wonderful little store named Sentir Cubano. When Nevada Bob Gordon was in Miami this fall he discovered this hidden gem on Calle 8, a store dedicated to Cuban culture.  Nevada Bob met owner Maria Vazquez they hit it off famously. Maria described him as a true American hero. " Bob is part of the culture we present here in the store. Hard working, successful, positive people....  He's like an All-American Cowboy... He's an amazing person. It's commendable when you are 83 and still going,"  Vazquez said. Maria and Miguel Vazquez opened the store in 2001. "It was time to create a store dedicated to Cuban culture," she said. Thus was born Sentir Cubano. Maria shared some of her own story.
