Stillwater Gazette Article Serves as a Nice Overview of Nevada Bob's Life and Spirit

Image
Earlier this summer Nevada Bob Gordon recorded his memoir 50 Years with the Wrong Woman at Wild Horse Studio in Stillwater. While there, Bayard Godsave of the Stillwater Gazette dropped in to meet Bob and do a story.  The article posted online yesterday and it's a really fun read.  Godsave successfully captured the Nevada Bob's spirit, and also uncovered some facts that even I didn't know about the rancher, singer/songwriter and author. Here's the beginning of the article with a link to the rest. I especially like the non-clickbait nature of the article title. Just the facts. All good. Nevada Bob Gordon records audiobook at Stillwater studio If you were to hear Nevada Bob Gordon’s voice, you might think you were in a room with Johnny Cash. The entrepreneur-turned-musician-turned-author has led a long and interesting life, which he recounts in his memoir, 50 Years with the Wrong Woman . The audio book, which was recorded in a studio in Stillwater, was released last week,

Nevada Bob Finishes Album Six in Nashville

Way down South, they have a Studio B The country folks had a jamboree They're drinking home brew from a wooden cup The folks dancing got all shook up This photo was taken at RCA Studio B. This is the original piano from back in the day. Elvis himself played it many times. * * *  Nevada Bob is still having fun. Here are some of the photos Gary Firstenberg took this week as Bob laid down another set of tracks backed up by some of Nashville's best. Special shout out to Charlie McCoy who makes Bob and every other musician feel at home here in the Capitol of Country. * * *  Drummer Charlie Bayers Nevada Bob with Drummer Ray Von Rotz (L) and the captain of the General Jackson Showboat (R). Nevada Bob Gordon Begins His Week In Nashville, Recording with Charlie McCoy

Image
This week Nevada Bob is in Nashville recording his sixth album, once again surrounded by some of Nashville's finest session musicians including Charlie McCoy, who famously played that wonderful guitar work on Bob Dylan's Desolation Row. In addition to five albums with Dylan, McCoy has recorded with  Elvis Presley, Simon & Garfunkel, Perry Como, Roy Orbison, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Ringo Starr, Tanya Tucker, Nancy Sinatra, Gordon Lightfoot, Manhattan Transfer, Jerry Lee Lewis, Waylon Jennings, Chet Atkins, Ray Stevens and countless others.  In 1972 he won a Grammy for his album The Real McCoy, and went on to record 44 or 45 albums of his own.  It may be common for young people to think of folks in their 80s as old geezers, but you can be certain that not all people are cut from the same cloth. It is inspiring to see men in their 80s still going strong, creating new work and having fun pursuing new adventures. What an inspiration it is to see Bo

Nevada Bob Update and a Link to Some Cowboy Jokes

Another happy Nevada Bob fan. "I lost my wife's copy of Nevada Bob's audiobook," Jack said, adding, " I'll probably never hear the end of it." * * *  It's fun to have fans. And Nevada Bob seems to be gathering them. Tall and lean, the modest octogenarian loves to engage with people. Sometimes he's just looking for an opening to sing one of his songs like Bad Movie Blues ("Sometimes life is like a bad movie") and other times he may fall back to one of his favorite covers like House of the Rising Sun . This young man on the right side of this page enjoyed meeting Bob.  NEXT WEEK Nevada Bob is returning to Nashville to record a new album. If you happen to be there and see a tall, lanky guy in a cowboy hat, ask him to sing you a song or tell you a story. His book 50 Years with the Wrong Woman is full of good stories. As for songs, there are a few of those included in the audiobook version of his memoirs, which will be going live any day n

Frenchmen Art and Books: An Oasis In New Orleans

Image
Frenchmen Art and Books is an independently owned and operated bookstore in New Orleans that now carries Nevada Bob Gordon's 50 Years with the Wrong Woman . The store can be found at 600 Frenchmen Street where it has been cultivating a following since 1978. If you check out their site you might find Delia Owens' Where the Crawdads Sing, which just happens to be a major motion picture that has been attracting audiences this summer. We're guessing that some day Nevada Bob's memoir will become a feature film. It's certainly worthy, a compelling story of resilience, with a mix of both action and humor A s its name proclaims,  Frenchmen Art and Books is more than a bookstore. They also feature original work by New Orleans artists Amzie Adams , David McPherson , Patrick Sart and others.  "I'm the fourth owner," owner David Zalkind told us. "My wife Gretchen and I own the store, and we have really good employees as well." Zalkind said the store s

The Trading Post in Islamorada Now Carries Nevada Bob's 50 Years with the Wrong Woman

Image
Thank you, Betsy Here's a store in Islamorada selling Nevada Bob's book. It's a great supermarket called The Trading Post. A b ig shout out to Betsy  Jacocks, owner of this popular 24/7 retail store in  the Florida Keys that is now carrying copies of Nevada Bob Gordon's 50 Years with the Wrong Woman .  The Trading Post has been family owned and operated since 1966. Betsy's family was originally from Connecticut and New Jersey. Like a lot of East Coast northerners, Florida became a desirable destination for getting away. Her dad owned an iron ore mine in Cuba before the revolution that installed Castro, so he had become familiar with the region. The Florida Keys are stepping stones that stretch almost as far as your imagination.  When I asked how far Islamorada was from where Hemingway lived, she said 80 miles. This prompted me to pull up the Keys on a map. I was surprised how far that string of islands stretches. You can check it out here . Islamorada is a village t

Check Out the Official Art Deco Gift Shop and Museum on Ocean Drive in Miami

Image
This week the Art Deco Museum and Welcome Center began carrying Nevada Bob's 50 Years with the Wrong Woman . The beachfront store and Welcome Center is located at 1001 Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. This is a shout out to Guest Experience Director of the Art Deco Gift Shop and Museum, Mark Gordon. (No relation to Nevada Bob Gordon.)     When I caught up with Mark yesterday we talked about Art Deco and how he ended up in this public-facing role here.  "It goes back to my college days," Mark said. " My mentor had a contract with the first four hotels that were changing from old people hotels to these wonderful hotels.  I learned about the art deco buildings then.  I've lived here most of my life and never lost my love for it," he said. The Breakwater (All photos courtesy Gary Firstenberg) Gordon so enjoyed the scenic  architecture that when he retired he started doing art deco walking tours. At first he did it as a volunteer, which he found meaningful and persona
