The Trading Post in Islamorada Now Carries Nevada Bob's 50 Years with the Wrong Woman
Thank you, Betsy |
Betsy's family was originally from Connecticut and New Jersey. Like a lot of East Coast northerners, Florida became a desirable destination for getting away. Her dad owned an iron ore mine in Cuba before the revolution that installed Castro, so he had become familiar with the region. The Florida Keys are stepping stones that stretch almost as far as your imagination.
When I asked how far Islamorada was from where Hemingway lived, she said 80 miles. This prompted me to pull up the Keys on a map. I was surprised how far that string of islands stretches. You can check it out here.
I asked what prompted them to be open day and night. Betsy said that there are a lot restaurants and night life and when people get off work they stop to pick up something to eat plus libations. The Trading Posts attracts both locals and tourists.
When I checked out the deli menu it was easy to see why they'd be a popular stop at the end of a long day.
Here are some photos, courtesy Gary Firstenberg. It's a clean, well-lighted place with friendly staff that will welcome you with a smile.
