Nevada Bob Gordon Begins His Week In Nashville, Recording with Charlie McCoy

This week Nevada Bob is in Nashville recording his sixth album, once again surrounded by some of Nashville's finest session musicians including Charlie McCoy, who famously played that wonderful guitar work on Bob Dylan's Desolation Row. In addition to five albums with Dylan, McCoy has recorded with Elvis Presley, Simon & Garfunkel, Perry Como, Roy Orbison, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Ringo Starr, Tanya Tucker, Nancy Sinatra, Gordon Lightfoot, Manhattan Transfer, Jerry Lee Lewis, Waylon Jennings, Chet Atkins, Ray Stevens and countless others. In 1972 he won a Grammy for his album The Real McCoy, and went on to record 44 or 45 albums of his own.

It may be common for young people to think of folks in their 80s as old geezers, but you can be certain that not all people are cut from the same cloth. It is inspiring to see men in their 80s still going strong, creating new work and having fun pursuing new adventures. What an inspiration it is to see Bob Dylan at 81 preparing for yet another European Tour this fall with his band as tight as ever.

Book exchange.
Charlie McCoy, two months older than Dylan, is likewise doing what he's always loved, making music and helping other singer/songwriters come across the best they can be. It's especially fun to see the way Charlie and Nevada Bob have hit it off, never too old to make new friends.

I don't know how old you are, but if you've stopped being curious, stopped trying to develop new skills or given up on life so you can kick off your shoes and do nothing... well, I would suggest there's a better path. You only go around once in life. As Nevada Bob puts it, "I was never afraid of dying. I was only afraid of not living."

You only go around once in life, and there are no re-plays, so make the most of it.
